NM Brujos win 31 to 29 thriller over Santa Fe Santos. AYRU to host car wash fundraiser.
Last Saturday's highly anticipated rematch between the New Mexico Brujos and the Santa Fe Santos may have seen a bit of a cool down weather-wise, but the rugby was every bit as hot as the Brujos pulled out another squeaker, narrowly edging the Santos 31 to 29. Tied at 17 at half, the Brujos exploded for two quick tries early in the first half and then held on for a down to the wire victory that was only assured when the Santos missed a late goal kick. The 10s match that followed saw some of the visiting Scottsdale Blues hit the pitch against members of Brujos, Santos and a few wayward Aardvarks as well. Even a handful of old boys turned coaches took the pitch for this exhibition to boot. In addition, Patrick Sarson took home the coveted man of the match award for his stalwart play against the very large Santos team.
Next up for the Brujos:
The NM Brujos look to take a 7s side down to the Mexico 7s tournament in few weeks and hope to return to a 15s match against local rivals the Aardvarks at the end of July or in early August. Stay tuned to the best local rugby social media coverage in the state for more information!
